$122,755 for textbooks in Clinton?

That is the figure proposed in the 2010-11 budget which is up for a referendum Wednesday, May 12.

$122,755 is an increase of 345% over the estimated 2009-2010 expenditure for text books. You can read the budget at the Town Clerk's office here.

Haven't Clinton schools heard of Project Gutenberg? Are our educators aware MIT has over 1,900 courses on line for free? MIT too narrow? Berkeley, John Hopkins, Tuffs, Stanford, Yale, Vanderbilt, Utah State, the Open University in the UK and others have free on-line courses. Click here.

Or is this money really designated for textbooks? Could "textbooks" be a place to park money to use elsewhere in the school system as the year progresses?
